Privacy policy

This policy describes what Local Service Calculator collects when you use this site, what it does not, and the choices you have. It describes this site specifically rather than websites in general.

What we collect

Information you type into a calculator

A ZIP code is sent to our server so it can be resolved to a city, county and metro area, and so the estimate can be adjusted for local wages and prices. We do not store which ZIP code you entered against you, and a ZIP code on its own does not identify anybody. Everything else you enter — roof size, pitch, and so on — stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.

Information you send us

If you use the contact form or submit a contractor listing, we receive what you type, including your email address. We keep it so we can reply and so we have a record of the exchange. We do not add you to a mailing list because you contacted us.

Information collected automatically

Our web server keeps standard request logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. Google Analytics records how pages are used. Google AdSense serves the advertising. Both set cookies and both receive information about your visit directly, described in the cookie policy.

What we do not collect

• We do not have visitor accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for and no profile to build.
• We do not take payments on this site and never see card details.
• We do not ask for your name, address or phone number to show you an estimate.
• We do not sell personal information for money.

Advertising

This site is funded by advertising. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of third-party vendors at optout.aboutads.info. Opting out does not remove advertising; it makes it less relevant.

Under California law, showing personalized advertising counts as "sharing" personal information even though no money changes hands. See do not sell or share my personal information.

Refuse cookies

Through your browser settings, or the consent banner if you are in a region where one is shown. Refusing does not stop the calculators working.

See what we hold about you

Email us. For most visitors the answer is nothing, because we do not know who you are.

Have it deleted

If you have emailed us or submitted a listing, ask and we will delete it.

Opt out of personalized advertising

Through the Google and industry links above, which apply whether or not you contact us.

For requests, write to hello@localservicecalculator.com. We do not charge for them and we do not treat you differently for making one.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will remove it.

Where data goes

The site is hosted in the United States. Google Analytics and Google AdSense are operated by Google LLC and process data under their own terms. If you are outside the United States, using the site means your information is handled there.

How long we keep things

Server logs are kept for a short period for security purposes. Messages you send are kept while they are useful for the matter they relate to, and deleted on request. Analytics retention follows Google's settings for this property.

Changes

When this policy changes materially we update the date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting it.
